Bill to raise National Guard pay sails through committee

Imagine this: you have a full-time job, one that pays you enough to cover your rent or mortgage. But you’re also a member of the National Guard, in service to your country and state.
Then you get called by the Governor to help with a wildfire, a flood or other catastrophe. You leave your regular job for your National Guard service, exchanging the job that pays well for one that pays $20. Per day.
State Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, R-Sterling, scored an unusual victory this week with a committee that usually sends his bills to the trash can, the Senate’s State Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
